Orange Juice –
used in cocktails such as a Screwdriver or Harvey Wallbanger.
Grapefruit Juice – many people
like this with gin (it is the ingredient referred to
in the popular rap song: Gin an’ Juice) or it
can be used in cocktails such as
Pineapple Juice – often used
with rum to create many tropical themed cocktails.
Cranberry Cocktail Juice – many
like this juice mixed with vodka but can be used in
cocktails like Sex On The Beach.
Lemon Juice – used in many cocktails
although many people prefer to use sour mix nowadays.
Lime Juice (Rose’s Lime Juice
is the most popular) – used in drinks like kamikaze.
Cola (Coke, Pepsi or any other brand)
7-Up or similar (Sprite)
Sour Mix – also known as sweet
and sour mix or bar mix. It’s a mixture of lemon
juice and sugar syrup and is an important ingredient
in many cocktails like Whiskey Sours and Long Beach
Iced Teas. Many people also use it as a replacement
for lemon juice since some don’t like the tartness
of lemon juice.
It can be obtained in liquid form or in powder form
and you’ll just have to add water.
To make your own, mix one part heavy sugar syrup (3
parts sugar, 2 parts water) with one part lemon juice.
Some people add 2 egg whites per liter of mix. The egg
whites are optional, but will make the drinks slightly
foamy. You may want to adjust the sugar/juice ratio
to give the mix the right balance of sweetness and tartness.
Bloody Mary Mix – this is good
to have if you are going to be making large quantities
of Bloody Marys as the drink contains many ingredients
and is time-consuming. Most bars use th Mr and Mrs.
T’s Bloody Mary Mix but you can also make your
own mix.
Club Soda
Coffee – good for both coffee
cocktails and to help friends who may have had one too
many.
Cream (heavy or light) – used
for both coffee drinks and drinks like the White Russian.
Ginger Ale
Grenadine – A sweet liqueur
made from pomegranates, it is often the last ingredient
splashed on a drink both for taste and for aesthetics.
Passion Fruit Juice (or nectar) –
used for tropical themed drinks.
Pina Colada Mix – Used to make
Pina Coladas. You can buy this in a store or make your
own by combining 1 part cream of coconut and 3 parts
pineapple juice.
Pineapple Juice – used to make
Pina Colada mix or as an ingredient in many cocktails.
Tomato Juice – used as an ingredient
in Bloody Marys and other cocktails.
Tonic Water – an ingredient
in a few drinks, this is carbonated water flavored with
quinine.
Water
Sugar Syrup – basically water
with sugar dissolved in it. Just mix 1 part sugar and
1 part water. Shake well. Let sit. Then shake well again.
