Cocktail Measurements

Cocktails are usually measured using the Imperial standard common in the US. For your convenience I will convert some of the measurements from Imperial to Metric and give a little explanation about the terms.

When reading the recipes, remember 1½ oz. is usually considered to be a shot (or a jigger.) ¾ oz. is a half-shot.

“Fill” a drink usually refers to adding enough of a non-alcoholic mixer, such as soda or juice, to reach the top of the glass or the designated mark.

"Dash" or "splash" refers to a couple of dashes - just enough to add a little coloring or taste.

Many old recipes also use the old terms for drink sizes. Here is a list to help you figure out which is which:
