Whiskey

There are a few types of whiskeys you’ll need to fill out your bar. Many cocktails call for blended whiskey. There’s also scotch, irish whiskey, canadian whisky, tennesee whiskey and bourbon, to name a few.

No bar can be complete without it. Here are a sampling of brands to look for when shopping for a particular whiskey.

Whiskey: Fleischmann’s Preferred, Four Roses, Seagram’s Seven.

Irish whiskey: Murphy’s, Bushmills, Jameson.

Canadian Whisky: Canadian Mist, Canadian Club, Crown Royal.

Bourbon Whiskey: Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey 101.

Tennessee Whiskey: George Dickel, Jack Daniels.

Scotch Whisky: Dewars, Cutty Sark, Chivas

Rum

Rum is made from molasses and many find it very enjoyable. It is a common used liquor in many cocktails.

Some rum brands are Ron Castillo, Cruzan, Bacardi.

Flavored rums are gaining popularity also. The above named rum producers all make a flavored or spiced rum. There are also Captain Morgan’s, Myer’s, Whaler’s and many more.

Vodka

Vodka originated in either Poland or Russia, depending who you ask. It was originally made from potatoes but today, 90% of it is made from grain. It is basically a tasteless, odorless and unaged spirit with no additives but water - although flavored vodkas have become increasingly popular recently and now come flavored with fruits and seasonings and even hot peppers!

Used in drinks like the Bloody Mary, Black Russian and the Kamikaze – no bar is complete without it.

Some brands are Smirnoff, Absolut, Stolichnaya.

Gin

Gin is made from a mash of different cereal grains: corn, wheat, barley and rye. But it is juniper, the added botanical, that gives it its distinctive taste.

Some drinks containing gin are Tom Collins, Invisible Man and, of course, the venerable Martini.

Some brands you might consider stocking are Gordon’s, Tanqueray, Bombay.

Tequila

Tequila is the distilled version of a drink made by the Aztecs in Mexico from the maguey plant.

Some tequila brands are Cabo Wabo Blanco, Cuervo, Sauza Hernitos.
